Civil Rights
After the Civil War, when the South had been defeated Abraham Lincoln finally had the support to set up the Civil Rights. And just after the Civil War ended the Civil Rights Act was established. In fact the it was just one year later in 1866 when the act as officially recognized. This Act made it so that every person would enjoy the same rights, no matter what there skin color was or what their ethnicity was. It also established that every person that was born legally in the United States would become a U.S. citizen. Though this sounds like a great movement it did not make it very far before racist whites started to once again discriminate against black people.
